Afghanistan, July 18 -- Badakhshan uthorities said they retook a district in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province after an overnight attack claimed by an anti-Kabul administraion.
Badakhshan authorities said on Friday they had regained control of Yaftal-e Payin district in northeastern Badakhshan province after an overnight attack, following earlier claims by an anti-Taliban armed group that it had briefly seized the district.
Police spokesperson Ehsanullah Kamgar said the attack occurred while several Taliban fighters and commanders were on leave. He said reinforcements returned within hours and restored control over the district.
