Afghanistan, June 15 -- Australia has welcomed the agreement reached between Iran and the United States and called on both sides to continue pursuing dialogue and diplomacy to achieve a lasting peace.

Al Jazeera reported on Monday that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong emphasized the importance of restraint and constructive engagement in a joint statement issued following the announcement of the agreement.

The statement said continued talks between Tehran and Washington could help secure a durable settlement and prevent further escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
