Afghanistan, July 16 -- Argentina came from behind to defeat England 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinal on Wednesday, advancing to the final against Spain and moving within one victory of retaining the world title.

England took an early lead and looked on course to reach its first World Cup final since winning the tournament in 1966. Argentina responded with a dominant second-half performance, scoring twice after the break to complete the comeback and secure victory.

The defending champions controlled much of the second half, creating sustained pressure before overturning the deficit. They then withstood England's late attempts to force extra time and booked their place in Sunday's final.
