Afghanistan, July 1 -- Afghanistan's ambassador to Australia, Wahidullah Waissi, has confirmed that the embassy in Canberra is nearing closure, marking the end of one of the last overseas diplomatic missions representing the former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Waissi announced the development after what he described as one of his final official engagements, a farewell meeting with Sam Mostyn. He said he left Government House carrying "the hopes and concerns of millions of Afghans," particularly women and girls who continue to face severe restrictions under Taliban rule.
