Afghanistan, Sept. 13 -- More than 1.5 million people in Afghanistan are living with cancer, with around 50,000 new cases diagnosed each year, according to the Afghanistan Cancer Foundation, highlighting a growing public health crisis in a country with limited access to specialized treatment.
Shafiq Shinwari, head of the Afghanistan Cancer Foundation, said cancer has become the second-leading cause of death in Afghanistan after cardiovascular disease. He warned that the number of patients continues to rise while many cases are detected only at advanced stages because of limited screening and diagnostic services.
