Afghanistan, June 3 -- Afghanistan has been elected as one of the vice presidents of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Afghanistan has been elected as one of the vice presidents of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the acting head of Afghanistan's mission to the United Nations.

Faiq said the General Assembly on Tuesday elected its president, vice presidents and members of the bureau for the upcoming session.

He welcomed the election of Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh as president of the 81st session and expressed hope that Afghanistan would play a constructive role in advancing the work of the Assembly.
