Afghanistan, Oct. 18 -- Pakistani airstrikes on Afghanistan's Paktika province killed eight people, including three local cricketers, according to officials, amid rising cross-border tensions between the two countries.

Afghanistan's Cricket Board said on Saturday that three players were among eight people killed in a Pakistani airstrike in Paktika province late Friday night.

The board identified the players as Kabir, Sighbatullah, and Haroon, adding that seven others were injured in the strike that hit the Urgon district.

According to the statement, the players had travelled to Sharan, the provincial capital, to participate in a friendly cricket match and were attacked upon returning home.
