Srinagar, Aug. 15 -- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced the beginning of a door-to-door campaign to gather support for the restoration of statehood. The campaign, he said, would cover all Legislative Assembly constituencies and reach households across the region.

The announcement came during his Independence Day address in Srinagar. Omar Abdullah stated that the campaign would run for the next eight weeks, during which he and his party members would collect signatures and thumb impressions from the public in support of restoring Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.
