New Delhi, May 28 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday termed the Supreme Court's judgement upholding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as a "travesty of justice", saying it has dealt a body blow to democracy and compromised the apex court's role as the guardian of democratic rights.

In a statement issued after its Polit Bureau meeting, the CPI(M) alleged that the SIR process led to large-scale disenfranchisement, exclusion, and intimidation of vulnerable citizens, including the poor, migrants, minorities, Dalits, Adivasis and landless labourers, across several states.
