Jammu, May 12 -- Srinagar, May 12 (KNS) One student was killed and four others were injured after a fire broke out at a seminary in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said.

The fire broke out at around 1:30 am at Darul Aloom Baba Hydari Reshi in the Old Mattan Adda area, triggering panic among students staying in the building, they said.

Teams of the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched rescue and firefighting operations soon after the incident was reported.

With the help of locals, the fire personnel evacuated several students from the seminary building, preventing further casualties, officials said.
