Jammu July 20 (KNS), July 20 -- Police on Sunday thwarted a protest march led by the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) demanding the restoration of statehood. The march, organized in Jammu, saw heavy deployment of police forces, resulting in the detention of several Congress leaders, including PCC president Tariq Hamid Karra.

Talking to media, Karra Called the police action "undemocratic" and a "brute use of force," Karra strongly condemned the police action, stating that the people's democratic right to protest was being stifled. The protest was part of the Congress's broader campaign to press for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
