New Delhi, May 12 -- In a major development amid raging protests over alleged paper leak and irregularities, the Centre on Tuesday ordered the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3, and announced a fresh test following a comprehensive probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, said the decision has been taken with the approval of the Government of India. The re-conducted examination dates will be notified separately.

"The Government of India has further decided to refer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations therein," the NTA said in a statement.
