Srinagar, May 13 -- Noted writer, columnist and poet Mir Shokat from Jammu & Kashmir has been conferred with the Indian Literature Award 2026 for his contribution to historical Urdu literature.

The Indian Literature & Arts Society announced the award on May 13, recognising the writer for his ability to present history through storytelling and research.

The award has been primarily attributed to his historical book "Mere Hissa Ka Poonch", which narrates the history, culture and lived experiences of the Poonch region of Jammu & Kashmir, the Society said in a statement.

The Society noted that the book revives historical events and characters while preserving the cultural heritage of the region.
