Jammu, Aug. 28 -- The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for traffic for the third straight day on Thursday after multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains in the Udhampur-Ramban belt, officials said.

Over 500 to 600 vehicles are stranded at different locations along the 270-km road, which is the only all-weather link between Kashmir and the rest of the country.

Traffic police said the highway is shut for movement from Jakheni in Udhampur towards Srinagar due to major damage between Jakheni and Chenani. "No vehicle shall be allowed from Nagrota in Jammu towards Reasi, Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar," a traffic official said.
