Srinagar, Aug. 28 -- The Battle of Hajipir took place during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 in Jammu & Kashmir. The pass located at about 8,600 feet altitude was of great strategic importance as it was being used by Pakistan to infiltrate armed raiders into Kashmir.

The operation was launched on 26 August 1965 by the Indian Army with the task of capturing the pass. Despite extremely rugged terrain, poor weather and stiff enemy resistance, Indian troops showed remarkable resolve and courage and in daring assault, the troops of Dagger Division captured Hajipir Pass on 28 Aug 1965. This battle remains a shining example of grit and bravery in Military History.
