KULGAM, Sept. 1 -- A 45-year-old woman was mauled to death by a bear in Tarigam village of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Monday, officials said.

Officials said the woman was working in an orchard when a bear attacked her. She sustained critical injuries and died on the spot.

The deceased was identified as Latifa Banoo, wife of Farooq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Tarigam.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further proceedings have been initiated.
