Srinagar, July 10 -- A special police officer (SPO) was dismissed from service in Anantnag district on Thursday for alleged dereliction of duty during the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra.

In a firm action to uphold discipline and accountability during the ongoing Yatra, SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure ordered the termination of SPO Shabir Ahmad Ganie for gross dereliction of duty, a police spokesman said.

He said the SPO had been duly detailed for the yatra deployment. However, despite being nominated and directed to report for duty, he failed to join his assigned place of deployment without any valid justification or prior permission, thereby exhibiting serious negligence and indiscipline during a critical security assignment.
