SHOPIAN, Oct. 4 -- Police have registered a case against a man accused of impersonating government officials and cheating people through social media in south Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Saturday.

According to officials, the accused allegedly posed as officials from various government departments and deceived people through online platforms.

The accused has been identified as Umer Shamaim Ganie, son of Mohammad Shamim Ganie, a resident of Meemander, Shopian.

Police said the allegations include impersonation of a public servant, cheating and fraud, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint.

An FIR (No. 207/2026) has been registered under relevant provisions of law and further investigation is underway.
