Jammu, April 10 -- The Anti Corruption Bureau Thursday said it has arrested a Panchayat Secretary (VLW) of Block Devsar Kulgam red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000.

Identified as Shiekh Zada Irfan, son of Shiekh Abdul Rashid of Muniwara in Anantnag district, the accused had been demanding a bribe of Rs.10,000 from the complainant for clearing of bills on account of labour charges of MGNREGA works carried out by the latter, which was negotiated and finally settled at Rs.5000.

ACB said it conducted a discreet verification which confirmed the demand for bribe, following which a case was registered. Subsequently a trap team was constituted which arrested the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe. The...
