SRINAGAR, Aug. 24 -- A man belonging to a nomadic community was severely injured after being attacked by a bear in the forested higher reaches of the district, and was later rescued by the Army.

Army personnel provided first aid to the victim and shifted him to a hospital, officials said Sunday.

Mohammad Akram, a nomad from Rajouri district, was attacked by a bear in the upper reaches of Dachigam in Harwan forest area on Saturday, officials said.

They said personnel from an Army unit stationed nearby quickly arrived to his aid, provided first aid and helped evacuate him to a nearby hospital.

This is the second instance of bear attack on nomads - who pass through this area grazing livestock - in the past month.
