Srinagar, July 24 -- A man was reported missing after entering the River Jhelum at Sempora in the Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar on Thursday, prompting a search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), officials said.

Officials said rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched a search operation to trace the man.

The missing man was identified as Maqsood Ahmad Mir, son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir, a resident of Balhama, Pantha Chowk.

The search operation was continuing when last reports came in. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation.
