J&K High Court backs govt denial of foreign travel to kayaker Bilquis Mir
Srinagar, Aug. 12 -- The High Court of J&K and Ladakh on Tuesday dismissed a plea seeking permission for internationally acclaimed kayaker Bilquis Mir to serve as Chief Coach of the Indian national kayaking and canoeing team, holding that her appointment by a National Sports Federation could not override the service conditions applicable to her as a government employee.
A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani said a government employee could not claim foreign travel or deputation as a matter of right merely because she had been selected for a national or international sporting assignment.
