SRINAGAR, Sept. 29 -- Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that cement plants using petroleum coke (pet coke) as feedstock will install advanced pollution-control systems to reduce emissions and comply with environmental norms.

Replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi regarding the continued use of pet coke by cement factories in the Khrew-Khanmoh area and its alleged impact on human and animal health, Choudhary said the proposed measures include installation of Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems with sulphur removal efficiency of over 90 per cent, along with alkaline scrubbers and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs).
