Amarnath pilgrim from Punjab found dead at Sonamarg hotel
GANDERBAL, July 4 -- A 40-year-old pilgrim from Punjab undertaking the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra was found dead at a hotel in Sonamarg on Friday, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Narinder Kumar, son of Parminder Kumar, a resident of Barnala district in Punjab.
Officials said Kumar was found unconscious in the hotel where he was staying and was immediately shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Sonamarg. Doctors declared him dead after completing medico-legal formalities.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Further investigation is underway, officials said.
