'J&K power demand surges 24% in 12 years'
Srinagar, Aug. 7 -- In the past 12 years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in power demand by more than 24 percent.
The figures further said that from the fiscal 2014-15 to 2025-26, Jammu and Kashmir recorded a surge in demand of 3,971 MU.
The latest official figures reveal that the annual energy demand in J&K rose from 16,214 Million Units (MU) in 2014-15 to 20,185 MU in 2025-26.
It also said that the peak power demand at 20,374 MU was recorded in 2024-25.
The Government of India (GoI) informed the Lower House that the actual power supply position of the region jumped from 13,119 MU in 2014-15 to 20,166 MU in 2025-26 that amounts to a massive 53.7% increase in available energy.
