Lesotho, Feb. 25 -- A racing heart, sweaty palms and restless thoughts before a match are common for many athletes. This feeling, known as pre-game anxiety, often comes just before competition. While it is normal, experts say it can either improve performance or destroy it - depending on how it is managed.

Matseliso Maloi, a social work trainee, says nervousness before a game should not always be seen as something bad.

"Pre-game anxiety is natural. It shows that the athlete cares about the competition," says Maloi. "The problem starts when the anxiety becomes too much and begins to affect focus and decision-making."
