Education being a subject of the Concurrent List of the Constitution, both the Centre and States/ UTs are responsible for the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Schools in the country.
The Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) under the Ministry of Education including Central Universities, are statutory autonomous organizations established under respective Central Acts of Parliament and governed by provisions of the Acts/Statutes/Ordinances/Regulations made thereunder.
