On 17 February 2026, during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 being held in New Delhi from 16 to 20 February, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India will expand its compute capacity beyond the existing 38,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), with an additional 20,000 GPUs to be added in the coming weeks.
