Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) placed behaviour change at the centre of sanitation, moving beyond infrastructure towards sustained practices and social norms. Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) transformed communication from information dissemination into dialogue, participation, and collective action. Mahatma Gandhi and his ideals of cleanliness and self-service became the guiding principles of SBM. Community institutions and grassroots actors, like Swachhagrahis, helped turn individual sanitation practices into shared community norms.
