Chief Secretaries and Disaster Management Departments Urged to Promote New Community Radio Stations in Vulnerable Areas; Emergency Grant of Rs.11.50 Lakh Available to Stations Hit by Floods, Earthquakes and Lightning

India, Aug. 7 -- The Government of India has issued a release:

As per the Policy Guidelines for setting up of Community Radio Stations in India, the basic objective of Community Radio Broadcasting is to serve the cause of the community residing within the service area of the Community Radio Station (CRS).

Further, under the Policy Guidelines, the Government has the power to direct Community Radio Stations to broadcast any special message considered necessary to meet contingencies arising out of natural emergencies, natural disasters, public interest or similar situations, and the permission holder is obliged to comply with such directions.
