Abolishing NEET is the Only Solution
India, Aug. 3 -- No amount of reforms or legislation will bring in equity or a level playing field in medical education in India until the blatantly anti-autonomy and anti-poor National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is abolished. In fact, most national tests like CUET, JEE and NET breed corruption, promote mediocrity, inequity and the commercialisation of education.
NEET suffers from severe structural flaws and has resulted in the commercialisation of medical education. This single high-stakes national examination unjustly favours urban, English-medium private school students who can afford expensive private coaching institutes. It penalises government school students and rural State Board students.
