India, Sept. 24 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping called for artificial intelligence to remain under "human control" and be developed "for good" as he met US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, putting AI governance at the centre of their high-stakes talks.

Xi said Washington and Beijing have both the "capability and responsibility" to develop and manage AI responsibly.

However, he did not outline specific rules, safeguards or mechanisms that the two countries should adopt.
