India, May 28 -- The United States and Iran have reportedly agreed on the framework of a 60-day ceasefire extension, but the proposed memorandum of understanding still awaits approval from US President Donald Trump and Iran's top leadership.

According to sources quoted by AFP, the two countries have reached a preliminary understanding to extend the ceasefire and begin negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme.

However, an Axios report said the deal has only been "mostly agreed" to so far, and final approval from senior leaders on both sides is still pending.

Trump wants more time

The report said Trump has already been briefed on the framework agreement but has not immediately signed off on it.
