UPI just hit a massive milestone! Over 55 crore users onboarded by June 2026
India, July 20 -- The Unified Payments Interface (UPI), operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under the provisions of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, had 55.49 crore users onboarded on its platform as of June 2026, the government informed Parliament on Monday.
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, said the figure reflects the continued expansion of India's flagship digital payments platform.
He also highlighted the role of NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NPCI incorporated in April 2020, which is tasked with expanding NPCI's payment solutions-including UPI and the RuPay card scheme-to international markets.
