India, July 27 -- A UK couple were left stunned after discovering what appeared to be a hidden stash of cash concealed inside an old paint tin while exploring a secret room in the cellar of their historic home, according to media reports.

The money, found inside the paint can buried beneath a pile of coal, totalled more than £1,000 in £5 notes dating back to the 1970s, Newsweek reported.

Luisa, 34, and her husband, Dan, live in a house in Sheffield, England, that dates back to 1900. Ever since moving into the property, Luisa had been curious about a mysterious bricked-up room hidden beneath the house, often joking that they might one day uncover a treasure.
