Chennai/IBNS, Aug. 4 -- A major political showdown erupted in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday after Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested over his controversial remarks allegedly directed at actor Trisha Krishnan during a public rally, according to media reports.

Udhayanidhi, a senior DMK leader and son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was taken into custody from his residence. He was seen smiling as police escorted him out.

She further alleged that the arrest was intended to prevent Udhayanidhi from attending the Tamil Nadu Assembly session beginning on Wednesday.
