India, Aug. 3 -- US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are set to resume on Monday after claiming he called off a "massive strike" on the country following requests from key Middle Eastern allies and Tehran.

"They knew the extent of the attack because they saw it forming. Now what we're doing is we're talking to them in the form of a negotiation. It begins tomorrow afternoon, and we'll see," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, according to CNN.

Trump said he decided to halt the planned military action after appeals from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran.
