India, Nov. 5 -- Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani was elected as the first Indian-American Muslim mayor of New York City on Tuesday, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who had been endorsed by President Donald Trump.

At 34, Mamdani will be the youngest mayor in New York City's history when he takes office on January 1.

Celebrating his victory, Mamdani posted a short video on X (formerly Twitter) showing a New York City subway train arriving at City Hall, with the slogan "Zohran For New York City" appearing on the station wall.
