India, Sept. 1 -- Tim Cook is set to step down as Apple's chief executive officer on August 31, bringing an end to his nearly 15-year tenure at the helm of the technology giant.

On his final day as CEO, Cook shared an emotional message with the Apple community, thanking employees, customers and supporters for their continued inspiration and looking ahead to his next chapter at the company.

"Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration. My gratitude is endless, and I'm excited for the next chapter!"

The post drew an outpouring of messages from users and members of the Apple community thanking Cook for his years of leadership.
