India, Sept. 28 -- British police have arrested five people on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act and committing explosive offences after three vehicles were found travelling towards RAF Fairford in the UK.

Police declared a major incident following the discovery, and dozens of homes near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire were evacuated as a precaution.

Army bomb disposal units are currently at the scene, examining the vehicles near the airbase, which is used by the United States Air Force (USAF). Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation, the BBC reported.

Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone said in a statement: "Counter Terrorism Policing are now leading the investigation."
