India, Sept. 17 -- N Chandrasekaran will continue as Executive Chairman of Tata Sons for another five years after the company's board on Thursday voted to reappoint him, weeks after he had decided not to seek another term.

The decision has, however, triggered a fresh standoff with Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata, who opposed the proposal at the board meeting.

Chandrasekaran's current five-year term is due to end on February 20, 2027.

Chandrasekaran agrees to reconsider decision

The Tata Sons board met on Thursday for the first time since Chandrasekaran publicly announced on August 12 that he would not offer himself for reappointment after his current tenure ends.
