India, May 26 -- Suspended Rajganj Block Development Officer (BDO) Prasanta Barman, an accused in the kidnapping and murder case of Salt Lake gold trader Swapan Kamaliya, was detained on Monday in New Town in connection with a drink-and-drive incident, media reports said.

According to sources cited by Anandabazar Patrika, Barman allegedly struck a pedestrian while driving in the Eco Park police station area of New Town. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
