New Delhi/IBNS, Dec. 12 -- Former Union Home Minister and veteran Congress leader Shivraj Patil passed away at the age of 90 on Friday after a brief illness at his residence in Latur, Maharashtra, media reports confirmed.
A prominent figure in national politics for over four decades, Patil is survived by his son Shailash Patil, daughter-in-law Archana, and two granddaughters.
He later took charge as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh from 2010 to 2015.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on X, recalling Patil's long years in public life and his commitment to societal welfare.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi described Patil's passing as "an irreparable loss" for the Congress.
