India, Oct. 8 -- Six people, including a woman, were injured on Wednesday evening when an explosion rocked a busy market in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, media reports said.

The blast occurred around 7 pm in Mishri Bazaar of the Moolganj area, a locality known for its dense cluster of firecracker shops.

"There was a loud explosion, followed by thick smoke and debris all over," said Joint Police Commissioner Ashutosh Kumar.

"Six people, including a woman, were injured. The scooters have been identified, and their owners have been called for questioning. The investigation is ongoing."

"Some nearby shops were affected; toys and other goods were scattered, and the blast shattered glass windows and damaged false ceilings," Kumar added.
