India, July 26 -- India's wait for a gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games came to an end on Sunday as star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu delivered a record-breaking performance to clinch the women's 48kg title in Glasgow.

The Olympic medallist began her campaign in emphatic fashion by lifting 85kg in the snatch, setting a new Commonwealth Games record. She then followed it up with a 105kg lift in the clean and jerk, breaking another Games record.

Her combined total of 190kg secured her a dominant gold medal and underlined her supremacy in the event.
