Kolkata/IBNS, July 12 -- Offering prayers at the 136-year-old Bankra Mosque, situated within the premises of Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, has been suspended from Saturday following security concerns and ongoing discussions over relocating the structure outside the airport boundary.

The mosque, located around 165 metres from the airport's secondary runway, has long been identified as a potential concern for aviation operations and emergency response procedures.

Authorities have stopped issuing entry passes to worshippers, while the state and central governments continue discussions on shifting the mosque beyond the airport premises.
