India, Oct. 9 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated US President Donald Trump for the successful rollout of the Gaza peace plan, calling it a "historic step" toward ending the devastating conflict that has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated that he also discussed the ongoing India-US trade negotiations with President Trump and indicated that the two sides would intensify their engagement in the coming weeks.

"Spoke to my friend, President Trump, and congratulated him on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. Also reviewed the good progress achieved in trade negotiations. Agreed to stay in close touch over the coming weeks," PM Modi wrote.
