India, Aug. 5 -- Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Wednesday said polymer-based currency notes are expected to enter circulation from the beginning of the next financial year, subject to the successful completion of ongoing pilot trials.

"We are still at a pilot stage. We will test and evaluate how they [the polymer currency notes] perform under Indian conditions, including the climate and the infrastructure we have in place. Thereafter, we will assess whether they need to be scaled up as they are or with modifications," Malhotra said during a press conference, according to The Hindu.
