India, Aug. 28 -- At least 359 people have been killed and more than 1,300 remain missing after devastating flash floods struck Nepal, police said on Thursday, as rescue teams continued their search for survivors.

The flash flood hit the Bhotekoshi River region at around 9 am on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction across three districts and leaving a trail of death and devastation. Foreign tourists and pilgrims were among those reported missing.

The powerful floodwaters swept away homes, buildings, vehicles, livestock and public infrastructure, making the disaster one of Nepal's worst in recent years.
