New Delhi/IBNS, Sept. 9 -- The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee CP Radhakrishnan has been announced as the new Vice-President of India.

Radhakrishnan won the V-P election by 452 first preference votes.

The election was held on Tuesday weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar made a shock exit from the post.

Dhankhar resigned as the V-P citing health reasons while several political quarters suspected something fishy in the entire episode.

The election for the V-P election started sharp at 10 am with Prime Minister Narendra Modi casting the first vote.

The PM was followed by other ministers and representatives from the opposition camp to the polling booth at the Parliament House here.
